Peter Nuninga and Patty are "friends again"

Yesterday, Peter Nuninga (a former contestant of SBS 6 reality show "Utopia") appeared on "Show Vandaag" (the infotainment program hosted by Kees Tol and Kim-Lian van der Meij with Patty Brard as an "expert"). The diva said to Peter he was "stupid" because of his behaviour in "Utopia". "If you're not OK, you can bring me coffee," the young man replied. Patty immediately left the studio. Fortunately, the quarrel didn't last and Peter posted a nice tweet to show the public that La Brard and him "were friends again":

French cover version of "Who do you wanna be?"

Luv's songs have often been covered by Dutch, Belgian or German artists. But recently I've found out that a French singer named Patricia Lavila recorded in 1979 a single called "Je l'ai dit mille fois" (I've said it thousand times), the cover version of Luv's "Who do you wanna be?". The original track appeared on the trio's first LP "With Luv" in 1978 and was released as a single in Holland only in late 1979. It was the group's final release under their contract with Philips/Phonogram just before they joined CNR/Carrere RecordsUnfortunately, it never became a hit. However, "Gina, Dale Haze and the Champions" had a Top 10 hit with their version of the song in Ireland in 1979.

Pat's column about Madonna

Madonna & Timor Steffens

The latest column posted by Patty Brard on weekend-online.nl deals with Madonna and her Dutch "toyboy" Timor Steffens. The revelations about the "latest flame" of the "Queen of Pop" caused a sensation earlier this month. Patty underlines the fact that no-one is shocked when a mature man seeks sexual relationships with considerably younger women. But when a woman dates a younger man, people use words like "cougar" and "toyboy".

Click here to read the column.

By the way, La Brard and Miss Ciccone have something in common: both of them worked with the same session musicians and producers. Among them were Paulinho Da Costa (who played percussion on Patty's first LP in 1981 and Madonna's "True Blue" album in 1986) and Jai Winding (who produced Brard's "Red Light" in 1985 and who was the musical director on Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour (1990) and The Girlie Show (1993).

José shocked by Gerard Joling's remarks

José Hoebee is terribly shocked by remarks made by Gerard Joling. Last week, the Divo of Dutch Pop told "RTL Boulevard" that "José drank as much as her friend Bonnie St. Claire". "I'm doing my best to help Bonnie and what he says is wrong," the ex-Luv' singer replied.
Recently, "Geer" appeared on "Boulevard" following the revelations about Bonnie's recent problems (see news posted on January 18th, 2013). José was astonished when she watched the TV program. "I don't know why he said this. We've known each other for so many years...to some extent. He has never come home and I've never been invited to his house," she explained.
Though José doesn't agree with Gerard who described her as a bad friend, she wants to ease Bonnie's pain.

Bonnie St. Claire & José Hoebee gave a private performance at "Café de Flierefluiter" for the wedding anniversary of Martino and Joop (the owners of the gay bar) in Rotterdam, NL on January 18th. Kok Kern (who attended the event) told me that the ladies performed separately at first and then they sang together.

Pat's column about John de Mol's Utopia

Patty Brard's latest column in Weekend Magazine deals with "Utopia", a reality program conceived by Endemol founder John de Mol. The show premiered on SBS 6 on January 6th and attracted 1.567.000 viewers (market share: 21.9%), according to Stichting KijkOnderzoek (Dutch audience measurement company). Since then, it has drawn an average audience of 1.269.000 viewers (market share: 19.8%)

"Utopia" centres on 15 people living on a piece of land near Laren and attempting to build up a new community. They have been provided with a shed, two cows, some chickens, water and electricity connections, a telephone and a safe with €10,000.

The 15 participants include seven women and eight men. They include a builder, a nurse and a security guard as well as a wrestler and a tramp. Every month one resident will be voted out and replaced by two more candidates, one of whom will be invited to stay after a trial period.

The group are under the watchful eye of 98 cameras. As well as the daily show, viewers can follow events live via the internet and take part in voting who should leave the site.

John de Mol, who is reportedly in dispute with SBS's principle shareholder over the channel’s performance, told the AD in early January that he hoped the new show would generate 1.5 million viewers. Of them, 800,000 should become regulars, De Mol said.

The difference with other Big Brother-style shows is that the group will be left to get on with their new lives for a year, without interaction with the outside world.

'This means as producers we have no way of steering events,’ De Mol told the Volkskrant. ‘It is a social experiment and all we can do is record it.’

Patty praises De Mol's vision in her column. She also spoke her mind about the reality program on social networks.

José fears for her duo with Bonnie

José Hoebee

The Dutch celebrity news websites and tabloids have recently covered bad news about Bonnie St. Claire. The legendary songstress seems to suffer from alcoholism again. Last weekend, Bonnie and her husband Anne-Jan argued violently. Anne-Jan even fell from a balcony and broke his legs. As a showbiz expert, Patty Brard talked about Bonnie's recent difficulties on SBS 6 entertainment news program "Show Laat". Pop singer Gerard Joling and TV personality Viola Holt told "RTL Boulevard" that they worried about St. Claire

Bonnie St. Claire

According to Holland's most popular newspaper "De Telegraaf", José Hoebee (who relaunched her duo with Bonnie last summer) fears for her artistic collaboration with her friend. "I have to know if everything goes on," the former Luv' singer said. "This story should have been kept secret," José added. "But it didn't happen that way. As a friend of Bonnie and Anne-Jan, I hope that they will overcome their problems."

The German subsidiary of Polydor/Universal Strategic Marketing has released "The Best of Luv". The CD is available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and can be ordered at amazon.de. Between 1978 and 1980, the ladies were very popular in Goethe's country where they scored eight hits (including the #1 single "You're the Greatest Lover" as well as the Top 10 singles "Trojan Horse" and "Casanova"). They often performed on iconic TV shows such as "Musikladen" and "Disco".

"The Best of Luv" features all the singles of the trio as well as B-sides and album tracks. The 20 songs of the anthology have been digitally remastered. In November, I wrote an article about this special release (see news posted on November 16th, 2013).

José's radio interview on "Plein 5"

On December 30th, José Hoebee was interviewed by Govert van Brakel for the radio show "Plein 5" on NCRV/Radio 5 Nostalgia. The singer evoked memories of "Wisseloord Studios" in Hilversum. Luv' songs, José's solo tracks and her duets with Bonnie St. Claire were recorded there. Wisseloord is a pleasant workplace and is located in the middle of the woods. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, it consisted of five studios and Phonogram offices. José told anecdotes about the artists who recorded at the same time as her: Elton John (though she never met him, her husband Will found his "Golden" credit card and gave it back to his manager; Elton sent Will a large bouquet of flowers with a note that said "Thank you for being so honest"), the former lead singer of UB 40 "Ali Campbell" (who showed his bottom at the canteen!), Kees van Kooten (José was a fan of his comedy duo with Wim de Bie and Kees asked her an autograph for his children). The songstress cherishes her time in Wisseloord with Luv's record producers Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer. Last year, Miss Hoebee worked there as a voluntary telephonist twice a week (see news posted on November 28th, 2012).

One of my Facebook friends, Karin Angeleyes, posted the interview on YouTube. I would like to thank her.
