The other Luv's

Dutch songwriter and record producer Hans van Hemert created Luv' in 1976. He was assisted by conductor and arranger Piet Souer and manager Han Meijer

The word "Luv" is an intentional misspelling of love, sometimes used to show an affection that is more endearing than the word love shows.

In May 1978, shortly after the trio's breakthrough in the Netherlands and Belgium due to the success of their "U.O.Me" single, the girls decided to part from their manager as they were not satisfied by the way he promoted them. Han Meijer took his revenge by filing a lawsuit against the three singers. Meijer considered the name of the formation as his ownership and took the trio to court about the use of it.

Finally, in early June 1978, the pop princesses won the legal action and were officially allowed to be named Luv'. Pim ter Linde (who ran Interlinde Management) became their new manager.

Article published in De Telegraaf on June 2nd, 1978

Under the guidance of Pim, Luv' enjoyed the most properous phase of their career. They scored hit after hit ("You're the Greatest Lover", "Trojan Horse", "Casanova", "Ooh, Yes I Do"...) not only in Holland but also abroad. In 1979, the Charlie's Angels of Dutch pop founded a limited company called "Interluv'" with Pim ter Linde, Hans van Hemert and Piet Souer to control every aspect of their career. Two years later, Luv' disbanded (after Ria Thielsch replaced Patty Brard).

In 1989, Marga Scheide relaunched Luv' with two other girls (Diana van Berlo and Michelle Gold (later replaced by Carina Lemoine). She trademarked the name Luv'.
This decision is valid in Benelux until November 2019. It made Hans van Hemert furious (see news posted on March 30th and September 8th, 2016). The only positive aspect of this situation is that Luv' hasn't experienced what other 70's pop and disco groups have been through. Several line-ups of Boney M. or Baccara have been performing on stage since the early 1990s which causes confusion.

However, other bands named "Luv" have been launched legally but none of them have jeopardized the existence of Holland's greatest girl group.

Patty Brard: The "all-round" TV personality in De Telegraaf

Today's edition of Dutch most-read newspaper De Telegraaf features an article about celebrities who took part in talent shows. Patty Brard is a shining example of this kind of personalities. Her participation in the figure skating competition "Sterren dansen op het ijs" (2007) and the diving competition "Sterren Springen" (Celebrity Splash) on SBS 6 boosted her TV career. She also appeared as a regular guest on SBS 6's paranormal talent show "De Nieuwe Uri Geller" between 2008 and 2010 as well as on "MindMasters Live" in 2015. Soon Comedy Central will broadcast an episode of "Celebrity Stand-up", a new program in which La Brard will show her stand-up skills.

In 2007 Patty caused a sensation on "Sterren Dansen Op Het Ijs"

Pat's column about Gordon and Richard Groenendijk

Gordon

Richard Groenendijk

Patty Brard's latest column for Weekend magazine deals with Pop singer and TV personality Gordon as well as comedian and humorist Richard Groenendijk. The diva admires these two gentlemen who make her laugh very hard. Both of them have their own shows on RTL 4.

Richard's "De Jopie Parlevliet Show" was high in the ratings in 2015 and 2016. After the second season RTL 4 decided to stop the production of this program despite good viewing figures. According to the TV channel, it drew a "too old" audience which is not commercially attractive.

However, Gordon's show "Nooit Meer Naar Huis" is less popular but is allowed to go on. Gordon's influence on RTL seems bigger than Richard's one.

Patty refuses to choose a camp. She is a fan of the two entertainers and secretly she hopes that one day they will colloborate on a TV program together.

Pics: José & Paulette

Yesterday, José Hoebee spent the afternoon and the evening with ex-Champagne singer Paulette Groenewold-Bronkhorst. First the ladies received a range of treatments at "A Beautylosofie" (a beauty center in Loosdrecht, NL). Then they ate pizzas in José's appartment. They have known each other for 40 years.  In the late 1970s, when Champagne and Luv' reached their peak, they often met backstage at TV shows (TopPop, Musikladen...).

José expressed satisfaction about this convivial moment on Facebook and posted these pictures:
