On January 24th, RTL 4 program "Carlo's TV Café" featured a parody of Patty Brard and drew 672.000 viewers (market share: 12.8%). Carlo Boszhard (who impersonated the diva) did a sketch with Dutch actor Guido Spek. Click here to watch it.
Patty Brard's latest column for Weekend magazine deals with Dutch TV personality Irene Moors who recently signed a deal with SBS 6 after spending 26 years on RTL 4. Last week, the former Luv' singer expressed satisfaction on social media about Irene's recruitment (see news posted on January 22nd, 2016).
Miss Brard is very positive about her new colleague. She considers Irene's transfer as the "best news of the week".
Radio 10 has asked its listeners to vote for the 810 greatest pop songs from the 1980s. "I Will Follow Him" by José Hoebee has been preselected. This track was originally performed by Little Peggy March in 1963 and was a chart topper in USA. In 1982, one year after Luv's first break-up, José covered it and scored a #1 hit in Holland and Belgium. She even won a Veronica award thanks to this success. In 2011, Peggy and José re-recorded "I Will Follow Him".

30 years ago, Patty Brard wanted to give a boost to her singing career with the release of the dance-pop single "Red Light" taken from her third studio album of the same name.
After her departure from Luv' in the summer of 1980, Patty was very active and wanted to prove that she could be successful on her own. With the support of her then highly influential husband, Italian music publisher Carlo Nasi, she released solo records (including "Hold On To Love" which became a hit single in the Netherlands, Belgium and South Africa in 1981). The follow-up records flopped. For two years (1983-1985), the all-round entertainer found her salvation on television. She co-hosted the popular hidden camera TV show "Bananasplit" with Ralf Inbar. The former Luv' singer also had the privilege to present the 1985 edition of the "Sanremo Festival" on RAI Uno in Italy with Pippo Baudo (see article posted on February 14th, 2015). Miss Brard was hoping for a breakthrough in Dante's country. But the ex-Luv' lady did not achieve her goal. Because she settled down in Los Angeles, CA, with Carlo, the diva had plans in America. She was rumoured to be involved in American TV series (including a role in a sequel to "Charlie's Angels" and in "Falcon Crest"). But these projects never saw the light of day. In late 1985, La Brard hit the wall and had to move on. Carlo and she launched a record label named "Striped Horse" (a division of Allegiance Records) which released her "Red Light" album and exclusive material of Ike & Tina Turner. "Red Light" (the song) was written by Trevor Veitch and Jai Winding. Veitch was very productive in the 1980s. Among the singers he worked with were Toni Basil ("Mickey") and Laura Branigan ("Gloria"). Winding was a sought-after session keyboard player who later became the musical director of Madonna's world tours "Blonde Ambition" (1990) and "Girlie Show" (1993).
Article published in Limburgs Dagblad on December 21st, 1985
The music video for "Red Light" was shot in Frascati (near Rome) and featured extras who appeared in Federico Fellini's movies. All the essential ingredients for success were there: a well-produced catchy song and a great video. However, the single was a minor hit in Holland. It missed the Dutch Top 40 and only peaked at #48 on the Nationale Hitparade in early February 1986.

When Patty promoted the song in the media, she expressed her intention to have an international career. She wanted to be part of the "American dream". "Red Light" didn't achieve the desired results. Due to its lack of popularity, Patty interrupted her music career for several years and focused on TV projects.
On January 15th, José Hoebee and Viola Holt were present at the stand of "Prinos Reizen" (a travel agency specialized in trips to Greece) at the latest Utrecht Holiday Fair (originally called "Vakantiebeurs Utrecht"). Since 2013, the ladies have been ambassadors for Prinos and have taken part in several events.
On January 18th, José Hoebee posted a beautiful picture of Marga Scheide and herself on Facebook. The two former Luv' singers received a range of treatments at "A Beautylosofie" (a beauty center in Loosdrecht, NL).
Peter Lubbers (program director at SBS Broadcasting) and Irene Moors
Today Patty Brard has expressed satisfaction on social media about Irene Moors' 3-year contract with SBS Broadcasting.
Her TV career started in 1988 on NCRV with "Dit is Disney". From 1989 to 2015, she hosted high-rated shows on RTL 4 with Carlo Boszhard ("Telekids", "Life & Cooking", "Life 4 You" and "De TV Kantine").
In a recent column for Weekend magazine, Patty wrote that she couldn't get used to Boszhard's program "Carlo's TV Café" without Irene Moors (see news posted on November 3rd, 2015).
Two days ago, Patty Brard had a photo shoot with her dogs (Bibi & Lulu) and two little girls (Sjimmy and Juliette) for Gallyon van Vessem's book in aid of Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij (KiKa), a Dutch children's cancer charity.

Patty Brard's latest column for Weekend magazine deals with botox and fillers. The diva makes no secret of her use of cosmetic surgery. She supports powerful media personalities such as Linda de Mol and Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau who are accused of having 'botox faces'.
NPO Radio 5 has asked its listeners to vote for their favourite tracks in order to appear in their "jukebox week" (between January 23rd and January 29th). Five Luv' classic hits have been preselected ("U.O.Me", "You're the Greatest Lover", "Trojan Horse", "Casanova" and "Ooh, Yes I Do"). You can also make three free choices. So why not choose "I Will Follow Him" or "Secret Love" by José Hoebee?
The latest issue of Party magazine features an article about José Hoebee who discusses her special relationship with her son Tim (who turned 30 in October). A beautiful picture taken by Chris van de Vooren illustrates the text. It shows the singer posing next to a painting made by Iranian artist Abas Akasi in 1985 and representing the songstress holding her child tight in her arms. Akasi was the painter of the Shah of Iran and other celebrities (including Charles Aznavour and Salvatore Adamo).
Since the death of her husband, record producer Will Hoebee in 2012, Tim has been a great comfort to José. He gives her strength and courage.
David Bowie's death shocked the whole world earlier this week. May he rest in peace. He was the king of re-invention and his contribution to rock and pop music has been huge.
In 1987, Patty Brard hosted "Bingo", a music chart program on BRT in Belgium. For the purposes of this TV show, she had the opportunity to interview Bowie in Amsterdam. At the time, the artist was promoting his "Day-In Day-Out" single (taken from his 17th studio album 'Never Let Me Down'). The song criticized urban decay and deprivation in American cities. Bowie discussed several subjects with Patty (his live performances, the situation of homeless people in Los Angeles, paternity....).

Patty Brard's latest column for Weekend Magazine deals with Dutch girl group "Dolly Dots" that will make a comeback with their guest performance at De Toppers show next May at the Amsterdam ArenA. Patty is happy with this reunion. But in addition to her compliments to the Dots, the diva can't help criticizing her ex-Luv' colleagues (in particular José Hoebee) and being negative about Luv' once again. She told she preferred to be a member of the Dots instead of Luv'.
Here's a translation in English of a part of her text for the non-Dutch fans:
"I still remember that they (Dolly Dots) started as a counterpart of Luv' but with a rougher style and a more adult repertoire. I immediately became a fan of theirs and I've always been secretly jealous of their songs and their charisma. They were tough. My two colleagues (José and Marga) had nothing to do with the Dolly Dots. They tought that they neglected their appearances and that the songs of Luv' were more commercial. It's like comparing apples with pears. Anita (of the Dots) told me that she met José Hoebee recently. She said to her that Luv' were bigger than the Dolly Dots and flew by private jet everywhere. Well, what a statement! Luv' were bigger thus better and nicer. So who do you think you are? It's a bit childish. When Luv' and the Dots had to perform on the same TV show, I was the only one who met the Dots in the dressing room. I always giggled, specially because of Esther. I still do it! I have a backing track with a Luv' medley that I enjoy performing but I'm happier everytime I sing a Dolly Dots medley. The audience reacts as positively as during Luv's Greatest Lover. Sometimes I see beautiful pictures of the Dots on internet which bring back sweet memories. Of course they might have some problems but the Dots are the proof that girl power exists within a female pop group. I was part of the wrong band! Cause here they are: Anita, Esther, Angela, Sheel and Patty, each of them with their own career but on May 13th, 14th and 15th they'll be together in a sold-out Arena! I'll be in the front row during their concert cause secretly I've always wanted to be among these ladies!
Actually Miss Brard forgot to mention that last month José congratulated the Dolly Dots on their comeback on Facebook (see news posted on December 16th, 2015). In response to Patty's negative column, she wrote a message on Facebook that said: "I've had a good day....together with my friend Marga...It's so nice to still be friends after 40 years....and to be proud of our success...We've estranged from someone...with whom we did a lot together....Denial....". She added a YouTube video of "Like Strangers" by The Everly Brothers whose lyrics are appropriate to this kind of situation. She also posted a picture of Marga and herself with this comment: "Friends forever"
2015 was a bad year for the relationship between Patty and her former colleagues due to the feud over Luv's book which was forbidden shortly after its release (see news posted on June 11th, 2015).
Patty's selfie before the broadcast of "Shownieuws" (January 2nd)
After her holidays in Spain (see previous post), Patty Brard is back in business. Yesterday, the late-night edition of "Shownieuws" featured Renate Gerschtanowitz-Verbaan as the anchor with the diva as a showbiz expert. SBS 6 entertainment news program attracted 387.000 viewers (market share: 7.3%).

Patty Brard posted several "New Year's wishes" on Twitter and Instagram. She spent New Year's eve with her husband Antoine and friends in Altea, near Alicante in Spain.
The latest issue of 100%NL magazine features an interview with Patty Brard. The SBS 6 star answered questions of her "Showniews" colleague Koos van Plateringen. Pictures of the two TV personalities on an ice rink were taken for the magazine.
Koos & Patty
When asked what her plans for 2016 were, the former Luv'singer answered that besides "Shownieuws" and "Bonje met de buren" she had acting ambitions and was "developing interesting things". Currently, the diva is working on a TV mystery series featuring herself as an Indo-Dutch woman who has a restaurant in The Hague and who solves crimes. "It's a beautiful project," she says. "And we've decided that if TV channels are not interested, we have to see if the municipality considers it as a good idea. We are in negotiation with them, "she adds.
Patty's acting experience is limited if you compare it with her career on TV and in music. She appeared in four movies: "Odyssée d'Amour"(1987), "Costa!" (2001), "Spion van Oranje" (2009) and "Sinterklaas en de pepernoten chaos" (2013). She had a role in "Costa!" (the TV series) in 2001. Moreover, she dubbed characters voices in four animated comedies: How to train your dragon (2010), Lilly the Witch: the Journey to Mandolan (2011) and Legends of Valhalla: Thor (2012) and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (that will open in Dutch theaters on February 3rd).
