IBIZA365.nl is an online magazine about the famous Balearic Island intended for Dutch readers. The next issue will come out on November 2nd and will feature an article on Marga Scheide who has a house in Ibiza.
Dutch commercial station "Radio 538" has organised the 538JingleBall Awards. Patty Brard has been nominated in the category "538 personality". SBS 6 celebrity diving competition "Sterren Springen" (which featured the former Luv' singer in August and September) has received a nomination for "538 TV" (best program of the year). 2012 has been a good year for La Brard: her participation in "Celebrity Splash" (the international name of "Sterren Springen") boosted her TV career and media exposure. TV personality Linda de Mol launched in 2004 her own magazine called "LINDA." The 100th issue will come out on November 21st. Patty Brard has congratuled the team of "Holland's best glossy":
According to MSN.nl, Patricia Paay doesn't want to appear as the main guest on SBS 6 hypnosis show "Van Je Vrienden Moet Je Het Hebben", the way Patty Brard did recently (see news posted on October 14 2012). The panel game is hosted by Do with Ron & Rick Brandsteder as team captains. Miss Brard was under hypnosis for the purposes of the program. La Paay played in Rick's team. She admits that she would not be able to do the same as Patty. She is afraid to lose control. Patricia said: "Patty is completely different from me. She dares everything."
In 1995, TV personality Bart de Graaff (who suffered from renal failure which caused a growth disorder and made him look like a 12-year old boy) conducted a funny "tell-all" interview with Patty Brard. The diva told anecdotes about the Luv' era, her TV career, the San Remo Festival, her lovers, her bankruptcy....Witnesses to Brard's ups and downs appeared in this program (including record producer Hans van Hemert and ex-husband Carlo Nasi). As a Frenchman I reacted astonishingly when Van Hemert told that during their heyday "Luv' received a gold record from Jacques Chirac (at the time he was the mayor of Paris) at the Maxim's". Patty replied that she didn't remember. Click on the YouTube screens to watch the videos.

Patty appreciated Bart and worked with him on the parody of "We Are The World" (Hij Gaat Voor C!) which was a Dutch Top 5 hit in 1997. De Graaff founded the public broadcasting network BNN and died on May 25. 2002.

In 1995, Patty Brard hosted "Onder de ... van ..." a program on RTL 5 in which she interviewed celebrities. Each episode was named after the guest's last name (ex: Onder de H van Hazes, Onder de G van Groothuizen, Onder de J van Joling...).
Patty had the privilege to interview Sylvia Kristel who passed away recently (see news posted on October 23). This sequence has now a special meaning. The actress was straightforward and discussed many subjects concerning her life and her career (the erotic movie "Emmanuelle" who made her world-famous in 1974, motherhood, alcoholism, her relationship with Hugo Claus....). Click on the YouTube screens to watch the videos.
Patty Brard told recently on social networks that she was in India. Dutch tourists posted messages on Twitter to tell that she was there for RTL 5 program "Wie Is de Reisleider?" (Who's the tour guide?). But the news has not been confirmed yet. Last weekend, Miss Brard came back from Utah where the Eyeworks show "Echte Meisjes op de Prairie" was taped. Two days later, she flew to India. The diva is in the spotlight again after her famous splash on Sterren Springen.
Patty Brard is so grateful to Gerard Joling for choosing her as a candidate on "Sterren Springen op Zaterdag". That's what the entertainer told Story magazine. It was her good fortune after the demise of RTL 4 reality show "Diva's Draaien Door" and Luv's break-up. Her splash on SBS 6 celebrity diving competition was a highly-covered media event and indeed a trending topic on Twitter. It led to a golden opportunity: Patty was lucky enough to host the RTL 5 program "Echte Meisjes op de Prairie" which will air in early 2013 (see news posted on October 2nd 2012).
Patty Brard has been nominated for the Beau Monde Awards in the category "Leco Look Award". Last Spring, the diva impersonated Jennifer Lopez and did a photo shoot for the glossy magazine "Beau Monde". The presentation of the awards will take place at the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam on November 12.
Patty Brard posted a message on Facebook to pay tribute to Sylvia Kristel (who became world-famous thanks to the 1974 erotic French film Emmanuelle and died on October 17.)

José Hoebee attended the CD release party of Flemish singer Mieke held in Hilversum, NL on October 17th. Mieke's latest album is entitled "Ik zal er altijd voor je zijn" (I will always be there for you). Anton (frontman of Dutch Show Company) was also present. Click here to see pictures.
Patty Brard's failed dive on Sterren Springen was big news in Holland in late August and September. Eyeworks, which produced the show, promoted "Celebrity Splash" (the international name of the format) at the latest MIPCOM in Cannes, France. The program has been sold to major TV channels including ABC (USA), TF1 (France) and Seven Network (Australia) (see news posted on October 10th 2012). Reinout Oerlemans, CEO of Eyeworks, admitted that he used Patty's dive as a publicity stunt to promote his format worldwide. Today an article mentioning La Brard as the "kind of big deal in the low countries" has been posted on the website of B&T (Australia's leading title for the advertising, marketing, media and PR industries). You can like heror not but one thing is sure: whatever she does, Miss Brard knows how to generate buzz.
Piet Souer & Luv' at Will Hoebee's birthday party in 2007 in Best, NL
Every Luv' admirer knows Piet Souer. This very talented guitar player is also a fabulous songwriter, conductor, arranger and producer. His music career is marked by eclecticism. In the 1970's he teamed up with Hans van Hemert to create the fresh and pop "Luv' sound". The duo was credited as "Janschen & Janschens" on Luv's record sleeves. The list of the artists he worked with is impressive: Mouth & MacNeal, Liesbeth List & Ramses Shaffy, Conquistador, Vanessa, Anita Meyer, Doris D. & The Pins...I had the privilege to interview him in 2009 for my former Luv' site.
In March 2011, Peggy March & José Hoebee recorded a new version of "I Will Follow Him" in his recording studio "SouerStudio2". A remixed version of the pop classic "Why Tell Me Why" performed by Guilliano Vs. Anita Meyer was a Top 10 hit in Holland last year.

The Maestro doesn't hold on to the past and is still busy. April 2012 saw the release of the Dance-pop single "Pull Me, Push Me" performed by Kochenka and produced by Piet and Hans Weekhout. Then, one of his productions, the song "Als de zon weer schijnt" by Tamara Tol came out and was specifically intended for the Dutch speaking public. It peaked at #11 on the RadioNL Top 30.

Recently I discovered the existence of a gifted Jazz vocalist "Kizzy McHugh" whose debut single "This bed ain't big enough" will be available on iTunes on October 18th. Piet took part in the production of the record.
Despite their huge popularity, 1980 was far from being a tremendous year for Luv'. Patty Brard left the group and was replaced by Ria Thielsch. Shortly after this line-up change, Marga Scheide suffered from a nervous breakdown which brought Luv's career to a standstill.
In February 1981, Philips Records released Patty's first solo single entitled "Hold On To Love". The pop-rock track was taken from her "All The Way" LP. The album was recorded in the best studios in Los Angeles, CA and produced by her lover Carlo Nasi, a wealthy Italian music publisher, songwriter and producer ....as well as one of the heirs of the FIAT empire. He could afford the "crème de la crème" of session musicians for Patty. Legendary keyboard player Billy Preston, Brazilian percussionist Paulinho Da Costa and American composer Richard Gibbs were hired on Miss Brard's record. Patty promoted her music on Holland's main TV shows (including TopPop, Telebingo and Nederland Muziekland). Hold On To Love became a hit single: #19 on the Dutch Top 40 and #14 on the Nationale Hitparade in the Netherlands, #4 on the BRT Top 30 in Belgium and #12 on the South African Charts.

Luv' was not active as they stopped their TV and stage performances. Meanwhile, the group's entourage was busy with other projects. Piet Souer (who co-wrote Luv's songs with Hans van Hemert) had a #1 hit (Shine Up) in Holland and Belgium with another female pop act Doris D. & The Pins. In an interview published on February 21st in the newspaper Het Vrije Volk, Souer said about the uncertain future of the trio: "A lot has got to do with motivation. If the girls work hard for it, they'll be back for good." Unfortunately, the motivation had gone and the ladies surrendered.
In early March 1981, Manager Pim ter Linde announced the group's break-up to the media. The three singers kept a low profile for several months. Marga and José secretly provided vocals on "Tick-a-thumps my heart", a single by Babe (one of Luv's rivals) which reached the Top 20 in Belgium and the Netherlands in the summer of 1981. Though all the songs of Babewere written by Peter Koelewijn, Tick-a-thumps was an exception as Hans van Hemert wrote and produced it. Marga was in charge of Babe's styling.

The fans were very disappointed in Luv's break-up. To the public's great surprise, the trio appeared at the Efteling theme park during Hitkrant's zomerspelen (a summer multi-sport event with celebrities which was sponsored by teen magazine Hitkrant). On July 22nd, they made a farewell performance on Nederland Muziekland, a successful music show on Veronica channel which featured the "who's who" of Dutch singers and bands. The program was taped in Spakenburg, Netherlands. The ladies performed "Tingalingaling", a post-disco/synthpop track taken from their "Forever Yours" album and released as a single by CNR/Carrere Records. Marga was at that time reluctant to plan a comeback and José intended to launch her solo career. However, Willem-Jan van de Wetering (general manager of Luv's record company) convinced them to appear on this unique TV show.

Because of a lack of promotion due to Luv's demise, "Tingalingaling" was a moderate hit in the Netherlands. It peaked at #29 on the Dutch Top 40 and #15 on the Nationale Hitparadein Holland. Moreover, the ladies were expected to sing at a UNICEF gala in Greece but their participation in this show was cancelled.

Then, a compilation (featuring the repertoire from 1979 to 1981 and entitled "Goodbye Luv'") came out. During the release party of this anthology held in Pim ter Linde's villa, British pop singer Keith Marshall gave Marga and José the first copy of this album. It marked the end of a short and intense international success story. 12 singles, 4 albums, 13 gold and platinum awards, a string of hits scored in a dozen countries, one Dutch export award (Conamus Export Price), 7 million records sales, TV shows, magazines covers, heavy rotation on the radio...Luv' can be proud of their achievement.

Marga enjoyed life with her boyfriend, media mogul John de Mol. She later supervised the styling of bands and recording artists. Ria went on with her modelling career. José and record producer Will Hoebee got married in October. The wedding reception took place in David Soul's villa in Los Angeles. Soul became world famous for his role in the TV series "Starsky & Hutch" in the late 1970's. Will produced his album "Best Days Of Our Lives " in 1981.

Just before the launch of her solo career, José recorded the background vocals on the first album of Doris D. & The Pins produced by Piet Souer. She was not credited on the record sleeve, which was common practice in the music industry at the time (it was before Milli Vanilli scandal).

After Luv's glory era, José's challenge was to prove that she could score hit records on her own. As the most talented member of the female pop act, she recorded the majority of the vocal lines in the studio. Expectations were high when she went solo. December 1981 was a milestone in her existence when CNR/Carrere Records put out her single "I'm so sorry". The song was written by Piet Souer and produced by Pim Koopman (member of the pop-rock band Kayak and producer of the sister duo Maywood). José had a helping hand from Marga for her styling and her husband Will for musical expertise. Though the singer was surrounded by generous and devoted people, her debut record was not a mainstream success. It failed to break into the Dutch Top 40 and peaked at #39 on the Nationale Hitparade. French-Bulgarian chanteuse Sylvie Vartan covered it in 1982. Her version was entitled "La Sortie de Secours".

On December 31, Marga and José appeared on New Year's Eve TV program "Oud en nieuw in de veiling" (on NOS). They sang a funny version of "'t is genoeg" (Netherlands' Eurovision Song Contest entry in 1965originally performed by Conny Vandenbos).

1981 was a sad year for Luv's public. No-one expected that there would be several reunions in the future.
