The Luv' ladies mentioned in the unauthorized biography of De Mol family

In late 2020, I reported that the Luv' ladies were mentioned in a tell-all biography written by Mark Koster and dealing with Holland's most powerful media family: De Mol. - see news posted on November 28th, 2020.

The most famous members of this family are media tycoon John de Mol Jr (founder of the media companies Endemol and Talpa) who became a household name in the world with the success of Big Brother (reality TV show) and The Voice (talent show), his sister Linda (TV presenter, media personality and actress) as well as his son Johnny (TV host and actor).

Recently, I read the book and here's a summary of the passages including two original members of Luv'.

Marga Scheide

Marga was John's partner in the first half of the 1980s and she was interviewed by the author to discuss her relationship with the media magnate.

In January 1980, John de Mol and his crew filmed a TV special with Luv' in Benalmadena, Spain. The aim of this show was to promote Luv's third album entitled True Luv'. Mark Koster referred to a specific moment of the TV program: as John and his team were filming Luv's performance of Ann-Maria on the beach, the TV producer was holding a door to protect José Hoebee from the wind for a better result on camera.

During the taping of the special, Patty Brard (who was married to TV star Ron Brandsteder) had an affair with Henny Budie who directed the show. Meanwhile, John de Mol (who was married to Dutch singer Willeke Alberti) became interested in Marga Scheide. He first met Luv' in 1977 when the girl group auditioned for him to appear on the TROS show "Disco Circus" to perform the debut single "My Man".

John and Marga clicked during the filming of the TV special and rapidly fell in love. But the blonde Luv' singer wanted John to separate from his wife. She ended her relationship with a kitchen salesman. "After this trip, I broke up with my partner and I stayed one night at my mother's house because I had feelings for John. Then I moved to Patty Brard's place. She had just parted from Ron Brandsteder, the host of Showbizzquiz and dated Henny Budie," Marga told.

Miss Scheide gave John an ultimatum: he had to tell Willeke the truth about his love for her and had to live with her after Luv's promo tour in Mexico.

Marga and Patty rented a house that was within walking distance from Willeke's home. When Willeke found out what was going on, she was so furious that she visited the Luv' ladies with her son Johnny and his dirty diaper. "Well, if you want my man, you also have to change my son's diapers," she said...

In 1985, Marga and John broke up. The TV producer wasn't home very often. "John worked a lot. No, he was not the kind of person who was pleasant," Marga explained. She had been Little Johnny's stepmother for five years and went with father and son to the Efteling theme park, visited De Mol's parents and her mother at the campsite. But the couple didn't reach much. According to Mark Koster, Marga left John the way she did it with her ex, the kitchen salesman: unannounced. One day, John came back home: all he found was his television set and the cutlery.

Moreover, TV executive Ruud Hendricks (who played a key role in the acquisition of De mol's Endemol by Telefonica from Spain) is mentioned in Koster's book. He had a short affair with Marga Scheide.

Patty Brard

The TV diva appears several times in the biography of De Mol family.

* On Comedy Central's show "The Roast of Johnny de Mol" a couple of years ago (see news posted on December 22nd, 2018), Johnny insinuated that he and the diva had been intimate. In her own memoirs published last year, the Shownieuws star told: "Well, this boy stayed one night home and indeed he tried to seduce me but nothing serious happened".

* In 2012, John de Mol (who transferred all of his media activities to Talpa Network and was a shareholder of SBS6) and Reinout Oerlemans (CEO of the television production company Eyeworks) were in conflict due to the success of the celebrity diving competition "Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag". The sequence of Patty Brard's famous dive was used to sell the format known as  "Celebrity Splash" to TV networks all over the world including ITV (UK), ABC (USA), TF1 (France) and Seven Network (Australia) - see news posted on October 10th, 2012. John demanded a part of Oerlemans profits generated by Sterren Springen. In 2015, Oerlemans sold Eyeworks to Warner Bros Television GroupDe Mol's Talpa took over SBS Broadcasting Group (that owned SBS6, Net5, Veronica and SBS9) in 2017.

* On October 15th, 2015 Linda de Mol won a lifetime achievement award at the Televizier-Ring-Gala (Dutch TV awards). Chantal Janzen gave a speech on that occasion. On behalf of Patty (who was overweight at the time) and Paul de Leeuw, she thanked Linda for giving her one piece of advice: "to keep on eating everything". Patty didn't seem to appreciate the joke and didn't laugh at it when she briefly appeared on camera.

* Between January 2015 and November 2016, Peter Lubbers was in charge of SBS6's broadcast programming. Tensions between John de Mol and him appeared, especially during the broadcast of SBS6's paranormal talent show MindMasters Live (featuring Patty and Peter R. de Vries in the panel of celebrities) in November 2015. Lubbers believed in the potential of the TV program but it was cancelled after two broadcasts due to bad viewing figures (see news posted on November 28th, 2015). Moreover, Miss Brard and Mister de Vries (John de Mol's protégé) were not on good terms. The diva made negative comments about the investigative journalist and crime reporter in Weekend magazine (see news posted on December 2nd, 2015). John de Mol didn't appreciate this attack. His sympathy for De Vries is due to the fact that the journalist advised him after his sister Linda and he were victims of blackmail. In the end, a 70-year-old man from Zeist, the Netherlands was arrested (see news posted on December 8th, 2014).

* Two years ago, Patty signed a 4-year deal with Talpa Network (see news posted on March 16th, 2019). At the time, the larger than life TV personality had lost 40 kilos after a gastric bypass. This drastic weight loss boosted her career. A secret clause in her contract stipulated that if she gained weight, she would be fired. The diva confirmed this story in her memoirs.

* In her biography, Patty said about John de Mol referring to the reality shows he launched (Big Brother, Utopia and Gouden Kooi): "This man not only conceived Big Brother, but he also became it".

In the final section of Koster's publication, the list of interviewees includes Marga Scheide. Peter Boonstra's forbidden book "The Story Of Luv'" (2015) and "Patty: de negen levens van Patty Brard" (the biography written by Michel van Egmond and Antoinnette Scheulderman and published in 2020) were used as sources by Mark Koster.
