40th anniversary of "Tingalingaling" and Luv's farewell performance on "Nederland Muziekland"
40 years ago exactly, on July 22nd, 1981, the Luv' ladies gave a farewell performance on Veronica's TV show "Nederland Muziekland". They sang "Tingalingaling" which came out as a single. Let's celebrate the 40th anniversary of this record.
History
In early March 1981, after a couple of months of inactivity, Luv's management announced the break-up of Holland's greatest girl group (read the article posted on March 4th, 2021: All About LUV' (past, present, future and more): 40th anniversary of Luv's (first) break-up (luvgirlgroup.blogspot.com)
Marga Scheide was depressive. Prior to this sad news, Patty Brard left the group in July 1980 and was rapidly replaced by Ria Thielsch. Luv's new line-up enjoyed success with the Top 5 single "My Number One" in late 1980 (read the article posted on October 30th, 2020: All About LUV' (past, present, future and more): My Number One: 40th anniversary of Luv's last Top 5 single (luvgirlgroup.blogspot.com)
After the group's demise, the ladies kept a low profile except for Patty who scored the hit single "Hold on Love" on the charts in early 1981 (#19 on the Dutch Top 40 and #14 on the Nationale Hitparade in the Netherlands, #4 on the BRT Top 30 in Belgium and #12 on the South African Charts).
The wedding plans of two former Luv' singers (José van de Wijdeven and Patty Brard) were announced in the press. The March 31st, 1981 edition of De Telegraaf featured an article about José and her fiancé, record producer Will Hoebee. The lovebirds revealed the good news on March 29th, 1981 during the birthday party of José and Piet Souer (who co-wrote Luv's repertoire with Hans van Hemert). American actor and singer David Soul (world-famous for his role in the television series Starsky & Hutch) was present at this party due to the fact that at the time he was recording an album with Will.

The May 14th, 1981 edition of De Telegraaf included a short article about Italian record executive Carlo Nasi who proposed marriage to Patty Brard. The proposal took place at Bart van der Laar's villa in Portugal. Patty wanted Van der Laar to be a witness at her wedding. Patty and Carlo got married two years later. Van der Laar did not attend their ceremony as he was murdered in November 1981.

Shortly after her birthday, José underwent an operation on her nose. As a former photo model, Marga wanted to work in the fashion industry again.

As for Ria Thielsch, Flemish magazine Joepie told that she was approached by record producer Julien van Wordragen to join the Belgian girl group Bordeaux Rouge. Van Wordragen put the record straight when he said that there was a misunderstanding about his intentions with Ria. Nothing concrete was decided. In the end, Ria was never part of another group and never put out a solo record.

Meanwhile, Luv' creator, Hans van Hemert wrote and produced a single entitled "Tick-a-thumps my heart" for the female pop trio "Babe". The song reached the Top 20 in the Netherlands and Belgium in the summer of 1981. Marga and José Hoebee secretly provided vocals on this track. Moreover, Marga was also in charge of Babe's styling.

José also recorded background vocals for David Soul's LP "The Best Days Of My Life" (produced by the man who would become her husband in October 1981: Will Hoebee). A party was organized after the recording of David Soul's album.

On June 18th, 1981, Marga, José and Ria caused a sensation when they took part in the Hitkrant's zomerspelen (a summer multi-sport event with celebrities which was sponsored by teen magazine Hitkrant) at the Efteling theme park. On that occasion, a handprint ceremony with the girls was organized for the official launch of the Efteling's latest attraction: the "Python" roller coaster.

In the meantime, TROS DJ Hugo van Gelderen started to play Luv's track "Tingalingaling" often on the radio. This uptempo post-disco and synthpop song was taken from the group's last studio album "Forever Yours". It was so popular among the listeners and the fans that CNR/Carrere Records decided to release it as a single.
On July 14th, 1981, Marga, José and Ria took part in a photo shoot in the garden of the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel.

To the public's great surprise, Luv' made a farewell performance on July 22nd 1981, on Veronica's TV show "Nederland Muziekland".
The program was taped in Spakenburg, Netherlands. The ladies lip-synced "Tingalingaling". Marga was at that time reluctant to plan a comeback and José intended to launch her solo career. However, Willem-Jan van de Wetering (general manager of Luv's record company) convinced them to appear on this unique show.

On August 13th, 2021, De Telegraaf published a surprising article entitled "Will Patty be back in Luv'?". One year after Miss Brard's departure, Willem-Jan van de Wetering (of Carrere Records) told the sensationalist newspaper that the original Luv' trio might be back for a final TV appearance with Ria. "It will happen as part of the promotion of Luv's new LP "Goodbye Luv'" which will be released in September," Van de Wetering said. This TV project never materialized.

Moreover, the trio was supposed to sing at a UNICEF gala in Greece (broadcast on Eurovision) but their participation in this show was cancelled.

Tingalingaling was released in various editions - all depending on which countries the release took place (Carrere in Europe, WEA in Japan and MAG in Peru).
A release party for Goodbye Luv' was held in Hilversum. British pop-rock singer Keith Marshall gave Marga and José the first copy of their latest LP.

Commercial response and chart performance
Because it was not actively promoted by Luv' in the media, "Tingalingaling" became a moderate hit in the Netherlands. It peaked at #29 on the Dutch Top 40 and #15 on the Nationale Hitparade in Holland in August 1981.
