RoddelPraat: Patty Patty Patty!!!!

Jan Roos & Dennis Schouten

Dutch media personality Jan Roos and his sidekick Dennis Schouten diss every week Patty Brard in the "Patty Patty Patty" section of their RoddelPraat show on YouTube.

On the April 14th broadcast of the entertainment news show, the RoddelPraat guys talked about the ex-Luv' singer's mobile phone number that had been leaked (see news posted on April 8th, 2021).

On the April 21st broadcast, the RoddelPraat duo discussed Patty's forthcoming bunionectomy (see news posted on April 17th, 2021). The diva posted a picture of her hallux valgus on Instagram. She will be operated on May 19th. During the broadcast, Jan and Dennis also explained that their RoddelPraat show was in danger as they didn't follow YouTube guidelines. According to these mavericks, the end of their program might also be due to the cancel culture. That's why they urged their viewers to donate so that they could go on.

The following week, on April 28th, the gentlemen announced that they were allowed to continue RoddelPraat thanks to their fans' support. During this broadcast, they mentioned a recent video of Patty and her new dog Bobbie on Instagram. Jan couldn't stand the way the Shownieuws star used a childish voice to talk to her puppy as she weighed him.

Patty Brard's helping hand to Sonja Bakker

Recently, Patty Brard took part in videos with the Dutch weight loss consultant and writer Sonja Bakker posted on social media.

In order to promote Bakker's latest book "Bikiniproof met Sonja deel 2" published like a magazine, the two celebrities decided to team up online. Their series of conversations entitled "Salt & Pepper Talk" is broadcast on social networks and deals with women's issues (weight, health, beauty, positivity...) . The videos were filmed in Sonja's kitchen decorated with Patty's new products (bottles of her alcohol-free sparkling wine and panther-print Kruidvat items).

Patty and Sonja's relationship started eight years ago when the ex-Luv' singer laughed at excerpts from Sonja's erotic novel on Shownieuws (see news posted on June 8th, 2013). Patty's hilarious reaction was a good publicity stunt for Miss Bakker's book.

When La Brard was a gossip columnist for Weekend magazine, she wrote two columns about Sonja: the first in 2013 and the second in 2017

40 years ago exactly, on April 27th, 1981, Holland's most-read newspaper De Telegraaf published a short article about Doris D. & The Pins, Dolly Dots, Babe, Maywood and Deuce. At the time, these girl groups took part in the taping of a special TV show "We Love You" broadcast on TROS/Nederland 1. This item was illustrated with a beautiful group photograph of the girls. The major absentees were the Luv' singers who had broken up a few weeks earlier. The soundtrack of this TV program entitled "Ladies Night (We Love You)" was released on vinyl and cassette and even entered the Dutch Albums ChartLet's celebrate the 40th anniversary of this unique moment that proved that due to Luv's triumph, the Netherlands were at the time the Promised Land for female pop groups.

Background

In early March 1981, Luv' broke up after four years of success (see article posted on March 4th, 2021). The trio had a brief and intense international success story: 12 singles, 4 albums, two compilations, 14 gold and platinum records, a string of hits that charted in seventeen countries, one Dutch export award (Conamus Export Prize), 7 million records sold, TV shows, songs played in heavy rotation on the radio, countless magazines covers...The Luv' singers didn't know that they would make several comebacks in the future. Hans van Hemert's brainchild was a trendsetter and inspired other record producers who launched their own girl groups: Girlie, Snoopy, Babe, Benelux & Nancy Dee, Dolly Dots, Maywood, Doris D. & The Pins and Deuce

Luv' 1980-1981 line-up: Ria Thielsch, Marga Scheide & José Hoebee

Patty Brard (who left suddenly Luv' in July 1980 and was replaced by Ria Thielsch) started a solo career just before the trio's dissolution. In March 1981, her debut solo single "Hold on to love" peaked at #19 on the Dutch Top 40 and #14 on the Nationale Hitparade (currently Single Top 100) in the Netherlands. It reached #4 on the BRT Top 30 and #7 on the Ultratop in Belgium as well as #12 on the South African charts (see article posted on February 6th, 2021). Her first album "All This Way" reached Nr. 35 on the Nationale Hitparade LP Top 50 in Holland.

Patty Brard

Due to their popularity on the international marketplace, Luv' set a high standard for other Dutch girl groups that came after them. None of their successors achieved their level of fame abroad. Only Dolly Dots scored more hits than them on the Dutch Top 40

To celebrate the emergence of "Meidengroepen" (girl groups) as a Dutch pop phenomenon, a unique project was set up: the broadcast of a special TV show featuring five female formations combined with the release of a compilation of their hits.

In April 1981, four well-established acts Doris D. & The Pins, Dolly Dots, Babe, and Maywood as well as newcomers, the duo called Deuce took part in the taping of the special entitled "We Love You" for TROS/Nederland 1 at the Theater De Vest in Alkmaar. The show was hosted by Ron Brandsteder (Patty Brard's ex-husband). Between the performances, the program included short sketches involving the girls and the TV host.

We Love You was the TV debut of Deuce (formed by twin sisters Clari and Anja Horsmeier) unlike the other groups that had been used to appear on the small screen. In 1982, Deuce teamed up with Marga Scheide to form the short-lived trio "Marga & Deuce" to put out the single "One, Two, Three...Bananas" that flopped (see article on September 24th, 2017).

The April 27th, 1981 edition of De Telegraaf mentioned the broadcast of We Love You in its Privé (entertainment news) section.

Following this TV special, WEA (that put out Dolly Dots records) released the soundtrack of the program entitled "Ladies Night (We Love You)" on vinyl and cassette in the Netherlands and Belgium. Although Luv' didn't appear on the show, two of their hits (My Number One and Ooh, Yes I Do) were included in this compilation.

This LP came out by courtesy of Phonogram, Utopia (Doris D & The Pins), Carrere (Luv'), TTR (Babe) and EMI Holland (Maywood). Its title bore a similarity to a Dolly Dots album entitled "P.S. We Love You".

Legendary photographer and Luv's ally Govert de Roos awarded Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau!!!

Govert de Roos & Luv': a 43-year history between the Artist and the First Ladies of Dutch Pop!!!

Govert de Roos & the Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema.

Yesterday, the renowned photographer Govert de Roos was awarded Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema. His breakthrough came in 1969 when, at the age of fifteen, he photographed John Lennon and Yoko Ono during one of their Bed-ins for Peace at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. The artist got emotional as he received the prestigious award.

On behalf of the Official Luv' and José Hoebee's Fan Pages on Facebook and all the fans, we would like to congratulate Govert de Roos!!!!

Govert de Roos was honoured for his "long and successful international career" and because he has volunteered for several charities over the years. Actress Angela Schijf, theater and television personality Maurice Wijnen, curator Sidney Brandeis, as well as other VIPs nominated the talented photographer.

"It comes as a complete surprise," De Roos said. “I thought I had a meeting for an exhibition and suddenly I was led to mayor Femke Halsema. Only then did things start to dawn. But so much emotion went through my mind that I still have to recover. I am proud and deeply honoured that this has happened to me. I love the people who made this possible,” he added.

Govert de Roos has photographed many pop and rock artists including David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, Sade, David Bowie, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, André Hazes, Rob de Nijs, Dolly Dots and Patricia Paay in his studio in the Jordaan district in Amsterdam.

De Roos is considered the father of Dutch glamour photography. “Because of his way of photographing, he made the Netherlands look differently at glamour and stars. He took it to an international level,Maurice Wijnen told about the Maestro.

Moreover, Govert de Roos has been an ally of the Luv' ladies since the late 1970s as he collaborated with them on several occasions.

His work with Luv' started in the late 1970s during the trio's heyday.

When José Hoebee went solo in the 1980s after Luv's first break-up, she often had the honour to be photographed by Govert de Roos.

In the mid-1980s when José and Bonnie St. Claire formed a duo to cover ABBA songs in Dutch, the ladies chose Govert de Roos to take pictures of them for their "Herinnering" LP. Recently, Bonnie & José's album was reissued on CD/DVD.

In 1989, when Marga Scheide relaunched Luv' with two other singers (Diana van Berlo and Michelle Gold), Govert de Roos was in charge of their photography for their "For You" mini-album.

In late 2014, as Peter Boonstra prepared his book "The Story Of Luv'" (including exclusive pictures), José and he visited Govert de Roos in his studio. The artist immediately believed in the potential of Peter's publication and supported this project. He officially authorized Peter to use unique photos for his book. The Story Of Luv' came out in May 2015 but one month later it was banned due to Patty Brard's behind-the-scenes manoeuvres who convinced other photographers (including Claude Vanheye and Patricia Steur) to threaten Peter with legal action.

In 2016, Govert de Roos took the official pictures of Luv's comeback (featuring Ria Thielsch).

On January 4th, 2019, Luv' announced an unexpected line-up change illustrated with Govert's photos. Chimène van Oosterhout replaced Ria Thielsch.

On September 13th, 2019, Chimène van Oosterhout attended the private viewing of the "Album Sleeve Art" exhibition set up by Govert de Roos and Rens Benerink at the American Hotel in Amsterdam (see news posted on September 16th, 2019).
