On June 23rd, German TV channel MDR broadcast the second part of the music show "Die besten Sommerhits aller Zeiten" hosted by Schlager singer and TV presenter Bernhard Brink. The program featured the most popular summer hits of all time in Germany. Luv's performance of "You're the Greatest Lover" on ZDF's Disco was included in the playlist.
Among the other summer songs in addition to Luv's track: We’re Going to Ibiza! by Vengaboys, Coco Jamboo (Put It On Another Version) by Mr. President, Irresistible by Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, D.I.S.C.O by Ottawan, Vamos a la Playa by Righeira, Looking For Freedom by David Hasselhoff and Voyage voyage by Desireless.
You're the Greatest Lover was Luv's breakthrough hit in Germany (the group's biggest export market). On October 2nd, 1978, it entered the Media Contol/Musikmarkt singles chart at #37. On November 13th, it became a chart-topper for four weeks. It stayed 27 weeks on the German Top 50 (until April 9th, 1979). In early March 1979, the single went gold in Goethe's country (500.000 copies). As of December 1979, this classic hit sold 650.000 copies in the Federal Republic. The record sold 1 million units worldwide.
