The latest issue of Story magazines features an interview with José Hoebee about her eating habits.
Story: What is your first memory of eating?
José: My uncle, a poulterer, brought chickens to my parents on Friday evening. Because we didn't have a fridge at the time, my mother immediately cooked the wings so my sisters and I could eat them.
Story: What do you prefer and what don't you like in food?
José: I love Tex-Mex food. Chili con carne, tacos: so delicious! I don't like oysters, snails and asparagus. You can eat asparagus with ham and an egg but to me, it remains disgusting.
Story: What do you cook for unexpected guests?
José: Since the death of my husband Will, I rarely cook. If I do it, I cook for the whole week and freeze it. If I have an unexpected visit, I defrost it. But I don't want to cook for people anymore.
Story: What is the most bizarre or unexpected food you ever got?
José: Oysters. I ate them by accident because they were au gratin. I thought they were mussels. I didn't like the taste. The same thing happened when I ate a snail. I think this is disgusting food.
Story: With whom would you like to dine and why?
José: With Paul McCartney. I've been his fan since I was 12. I had a picture of him that I kissed every night and that I put under my pillow. I really like him a lot. This man is at the top of my list.
