Patty Brard's latest column for Weekend magazine deals with the current uncertainty on Dutch television.
The ex-Luv' singer is a freelance TV personality. She has been active on the small screen for 35 years (see article posted on January 25th, 2018). Since her departure from SBS 6 in September 2017, Patty has been involved in one-off TV projects.
Due to her long experience, she is the right person to give her opinion on the recent changes on television. In late March, Media tycoon John de Mol’s Talpa Network acquired ANP news service, which caused a sensation in the Netherlands. Patty is wondering what the future of Dutch commercial networks (RTL and Talpa TV) will be. Many transfers between TV channels have been announced.
La Brard doesn't suffer from this turmoil now that she works sporadically on TV. She admits that she watches more and more channels from the NPO group (Dutch public broadcasting organization) because of the bad quality of some shows on commercial networks. However she still has sympathy for RTL and Talpa. "I really hope that peace will be back in Hilversum (a key centre for Dutch radio and television broadcasting) and that they will make good television again," she wrote.
