Before her career in show business, Patty Brard was a secretary and sometimes referred to this aspect of her past in interviews. She had received a multilangual training at "Schoevers", Holland's most famous institute which provides secretarial courses. By the way, my mother did the same and later worked at Philips lighting and Philips France. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this institute, Peter de Waard and Petra van den Brink wrote a book entitled "De meisjes van Schroevers". They told the fascinating story of this organization created by Dutch business man Adriaan Schoevers and the role it played in the emancipation of working women in the Netherlands. Among the former "girls from Schoevers" are famous ladies like Annie M.G. Schmidt, Hanneke Groenteman, Annemarie Jorritsma, Anita Witzier, Inge de Bruijn, Caroline Tensen and Patty Brard.
